What does Touch Point Cleaning Mean?
Touch point Cleaning is the cleaning and disinfecting or sanitizing of regular touch points. Regular touch points are simply things that a lot of people commonly touch like door handles, light switches, toilet flush handles, clock in/ out machines for staff, touch screens for ordering or checking in etc…
Why is touch point cleaning important?
Germs can be transferred through direct contact when people shake hands or hug. Indirect transfer is germs spreading through people touching something with germs already on it, like a doorknob, and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth, this is what makes touch point cleaning very important.
So how regularly should you clean touch points?
This will depend on the traffic levels in your building so doesn’t have an exact answer! Obviously ‘regularly’ will be a lot more often in a public leisure centre than in your own home or a private member only club with limited personnel. The suggested leisure centre may consider ‘regularly’ to be every hour whereas in your own home ‘regularly’ would likely be a daily cleaning task.
Will the germs come back after I clean them off?
Germs are transmitted by people touching the surface, if someone carrying germs touches the surface, they will most likely leave the germs behind for the next person to collect! Most sanitisers remove or kill the germs that are on the surface, but they don’t stop them returning. There are cleaning products that leave an invisible barrier which remains active on the surface for some time after you’ve cleaned it. This is great for reassurance as you know there’s some protection remaining until you get cleaning again. Check out our Endura Shield for a product that remains active for 10 days.
How do I know whats the best surface sanitiser to use?
Its important that you use an effective disinfectant to clean or sanitise your touch points, something with the mark BS1276 will effectively kill bacteria and something with the mark BS14476 will be effective against viruses.
After that consider do you need a ready to use product or will concentrated that you dilute be more cost effective? Lastly you may find wipes for sanitising door handles convenient as it’s a cloth and disinfectant all in one.
